Battle Hill Park

On Sunday we went on a small trip to Battle Hill Farm Forest Park near Porirua. It was a nice walk up to the hills with lovely view all around the valley. We walked through pastures with freely grazing sheeps and lambs. The sheep-mothers were really taking care of their children, they stood in front of them to protect them from us - intruders.

There were really strong wind on the summit; at times it was almost impossible to go, how strong it was. There is a bench on the top with nice view around.

There was the last battle between Maori people and early colonial forces in the Wellington region in 1846. "On a cold August morning in 1846 the first shot was fired in a confrontation between Government forces and around 300 of Te Rangihaeata’s Ngati Toa near the summit of Battle Hill....
