I am already more than one year in New Zealand, exactly one year and one month. Here are some insights :-)
Driving
They drive on the left here, which was kind of confusing at the beginning, but now I gott used to it. Maybe just at the pedestrian crossing I look at the wrong side first :-) But I don't like the NZ drivers. They don't care. No one will let you go on the crossing, you cant stand there for a while, no one care. They don't use lights, even if it is dark or mist. Sometimes is really hard to see the car, they just don't think about it.
Eating habits
The main meal is for New Zealanders dinner. Even quite late, it doens't matter. Dinner at 17.00 is not dinner, it is brunch, afternoon tea. For lunch they usually have something small, sandwitch, toast or something like that. There is a lot of chinese and indian restaurant, because of the mixed population. But I have to say that the chinese and indian restaurants are much better than in CR, the food is really good.
Rubbish bins
They have different system for rubbish and recycling. Recycling is much bigger here. They dont have common bins for several houses like in CR, but every house has its own rubbish bins - one for general garbage (not recycling), it is the smallest one. Second for recycling - paper, glass, cans, plastic. And the third one is for garden things like leaves, grass. Garbage collectors come every week, each week for different bin. One week is recycling, the week after general garbage. Than again recycling. So, there are no messy, smelly big bins on the street. But what I don't like is that there also almost to small rubbish bins on the street - you have to carry everything back to your home, because it is really hard to find some rubbish bins while walking in the city.
